Progress Is Key

So far my candy, I mean holiday grams are going pretty well.  I am making signs and flyers to advertise and to let people that the sale is going to happen.  The only problem is my signs don't look holiday-ish enough.  Today in class I tried to make a snow flake out of paper and it was an epic failure and I ended up tossing my strangely shaped scraps in the recyclye. By the way, the sale is going to happen December 6-10, just in time to get into the Christmas season.  I just got a fundraising form today and I am currently in the process of filling it out.  Everything seems to be fitting together and working out, but I will see how it goes.
Recently, I have helped Emily with her project be going around to different classrooms and annoucing the info about the bowling party she is throwing the night befor tolo.

You Mean I Don't Have To Do This All By Myself?

Well, everything is set up to work out.  My first sale is going to be the week of November 15-19th.  I have helpers that will help me complete my project.  I am about to get on the agenda for the  ASB so that means I will soon get funding for my candy.  Now that the sale is approaching I will have to start advertising.  I will need to make posters or flyers and I will need to spread the word early so people will know about the sale.  There is work to be done, but I am confident that it will all turn out for the better.
I am currently working with Driskell and  Kawehi who are refurbishing the old basketball court. I am working with Emily, who is planning a bowling night at Highline Lanes.  I just decided who I am working with today, so I have not done much to help them, but I am looking forward to helping them in the future.

To Do Or Not To Do?

So today, upon further thought, it may be too late to do a Halloween candy sale since the week before Halloween is approaching rather fast and there has been a lack of advertising and funding.
I have decided, instead, to do Turkey Grams for Thanksgiving, in addition to candy cane grams at Christmas. I will possibly sell Carmel Apple Pops for this sale.  I have asked around and they are a very popular candy.  Now, I will have enough time to get up signs, get funding for the ASB, and other preparations for the sale.  This is really the best choice in order to do better. I am projecting the sale to take place between the week of November 15-19th.

If Something Can go Wrong It Will...

Where Will I Get My Candy Money?
I think my first priority is to find a donor for the candy.  I really need someone who will fund my candy grams because you cannot have the grams without any candy.  The ASB may be able to fund me so that I can get the candy and have my sale.  I am going to talk to them as soon as I can so I can get the candy as soon as possible.
I have decided on the candy I am going to get.  It is perfect for a Halloween themed sale.  They are skull pops which are skull shaped lolli-pops and are grape flavored.  I did the math and there are 44 pops per bag.  Let’s say I need 9 bags a day which would equal 396 pops per day which could easily be sold if multiple students are buying multiple candy grams.  Each bag is about $6.  That means it would take $54 dollars a day to fund this.  If I do it for 5 days, then it would be $270.  But if I sell each candy gram for $.50 then I will make $990.  To pay the ASB back would be $270, so I would make $720 for this sale only.

People May Not Buy the Candy.
Okay so…it may be a bit short notice between now and the sale, but I am confident that the sale will do well, especially if I put up signs advertising the sale on Thursday.  That will give the sale the extra boost it needs to be successful.  I mean who doesn’t want to send and receive a candy gram?  Right?  No, I know I’m right.
I will also spread the news by word of mouth.  I will tell everyone I see that there will be a candy gram sale and they should bring their quarters.  Also, I will ask my teachers if I can announce the sale before class so people will know to bring money.  After the first sale, more people will know about it more and we will sell more at other sales.

I May Not Get Preparations in Time for the Halloween Sale
Well, it is less than a week away from the sale and I still need to get in contact with the ASB.  I need to know if they can fund me and if they will fund me.  I need to know how I will be funded and what it means to be funded.  I need to buy the candy and the paper for the labels.  I need helpers that will help me sell during lunch and who will help me separate the candy into the different bins.  There is a lot of work to be done and this is not a one woman job.
I will try my hardest to get this sale going and running by next week.  I will try to make the sale well known so people will be ready to buy the candy grams.  I will talk to the ASB first chance I get and will get the candy the second I get funding from somewhere.

Planning My Candy Grams...Oh My Gosh!!!!

Today in class I made my to-do list for my candy gram project.  What I reaized while listing, is that there is a lot to do to get this project going, but I am confident that it will all turn out for the better. Once I know where I am getting the actual candy from, that will be a huge weight off my chest.  Ha Ha!  No really though, I do need a place to get it from.  Luckily today though, I talked to Ms. Fitz and I may be able to be supported by the ASB.  Crossing my fingers.  Well, below is my to-do list.  Enjoy seeing all of my tasks.
          Until next time,

By the end of this project I want to be able to donate a large sum of money to charity, to help people in need.  I want my team members and I to be successful in selling these candy grams and have the whole process runs smoothly. It will take a bit of cooperation and good time management, to pull this off but I am confident that I can do this. Like when we have to attach candy, properly separate, and deliver it. But, I am fairly confident because I have been involved in something like this in the past and it has turned out very well. Our class teaches us how to be better leaders and improve our community and by raising money for a good cause we are bettering our world. Also it will be a nice surprise for the students to get a little treat in the afternoon.

The biggest obstacle I think I might face is the time to sort and deliver the candy.  In class I would have to sort out all the tags for the different classes, and then tape the candy to them.  If enough people are doing it though, it will not take as long.  Also, how I will get the candy is a challenge.  After all, you cannot have candy grams without the candy.  I am thinking we will either have a donation where people can bring in bags of candy or each person in the class will bring in a bag or two of candy. There are ways for this to happen.

What I want to do before Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas is set up a candy gram sale and donate all the profits to charity. The candy grams will be 25 cents each. How this will work is:

1. The week before each sale, I/the group will:
a. prepare labels to tape to the candy (printing/cutting out in appropriate colors/pictures)
b. collect the candy itself
c. advertise/make signs

2. At lunch the week of each sale, there will be a table set up at lunch. Buyers will:
a. give the money to one person
b. another person will give them the labels
c. on the labels the buyer writes who they want to send the candy gram to, who the candy gram is from, and the teacher of the class that the recipient is in last period

3. Later that day in leadership class I/the group will attach the candy to the labels and then separate them based on the classroom they will go to.  They will then be delivered to the appropriate classrooms.

Dates These Events Will Take Place:
Oct. 11-17: collect Halloween candy, make Halloween labels, and advertise.
Oct. 25-29: sell Halloween Candy Grams during lunch/deliver last period.
Nov 15-19: collect Thanksgiving candy, make labels, and advertise
Nov 22-24: sell Thanksgiving Grams during lunch, deliver last period
Dec 1-10: collect candy canes, make labels, and advertise
Dec 13-Break: sell candy cane grams/deliver last period

I will work really hard to make all of those dates and do whatever is necessary to fulfill what needs to be done. I will make sure everyone in my group is on task and is doing their work. I will manage our time well and get us everything we need to be successful.

The following is the materials it will take to make these candy grams possible:

-          Candy for Halloween, Thanksgiving
-          Candy canes for Christmas
-          Orange, black, brown, purple, red, and green printer paper for labels
-          Tape to attach candy and labels
-          Table to use for sale at lunch
-          Sign makings to advertise

I will need people willing to sell the candy grams at lunch, make sighs to advertise, attach the labels to the candy, sorting the labels, and delivering the candy grams.  I also need people to count the money after the sale.  There will be no need for training as most of the skills used in this drive are pretty basic, if not intuitive.  I really just need people who are willing to help.

Here are the jobs people will be doing if they choose to help me*:

-          Sell the candy grams during lunch (2 people)
-          Sort and assemble the candy grams (3-5 people)
-          Deliver the candy grams (4-5 people)
-          Make posters to hang around school (2-3 people)

*people can do more than one job

I will make sure everyone is on task and doing their assigned job.  I will not let anyone slack off or sabotage this project.  I will manage the time for everyone and make sure that we have enough time to sell, assemble, and deliver our candy grams.
